Child abuse is a complex issue that affects infants and toddlers at an alarming rate. It is
important to recognize that child abuse can take many forms, including physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, as well as neglect and can have a devastating impact on their development and well-being. It is important to be aware of the signs and symptoms of abuse so that we can help to protect children from harm while following state law for mandated reporters.

After completing this class, participants will:
• Identify best practices that foster children’s social competence.
• Describe how to assist families in making social connections with other parents and with the staff.
• Demonstrates general knowledge of child abuse and neglect.
• Observe, recognize, and respond to early warning signs of child abuse or neglect.
• Demonstrates general knowledge of mandated reporting laws for child abuse and neglect.
